Choosing the Inn on the Square
I did a decent amount of research before I settled on the Inn on the Square in Keswick. It was the recommended accommodation for an event I was attending, so I had a strong bias towards this particular inn. I always use TripAdvisor for hotel reviews and FourSquare for restaurant reviews (shhhh it’s a secret). When I checked TripAdvisor for reviews for Inn on the Square, I found a bit of a mixed bag. Many of the reviews were great, but some people were unhappy with the service they’d received during their stay. Here’s how my experience went.
About the Inn on the Square
The rooms are simple, clean, and modern, and the lobby and common areas are well appointed and tidy. The hotel was recently remodeled, and the remodel work shines through in the common areas. Given my American bias towards service at every turn, the service itself seemed to be a bit lacking. However, I’ve stayed at a few other hotels in England (of varying classes), and I’m not sure the service at the Inn on the Square was much different than that of other hotels I’ve stayed at. The internet worked intermittently during the stay, and staff wasn’t empowered to fix it.

However (and this is a big however), if you’re looking for a place to stay in Keswick, I’d be hard pressed not to recommend this inn wholeheartedly. Presumably you’re not in The Lake District to cruise the internet all day (unless, of course, you were at a tech conference like I was), the location is killer (right in the middle of the town), and views from the higher floors are, well, incredible (see the pictures below).
Take a good look at the Inn on the Square if you’re looking for a place to stay in Keswick. It’s a decision you won’t regret.
