Getting to Waking Life Espresso
Waking Life Espresso isn’t near the downtown spots most people will tell you to visit when you’re in Asheville. In-fact, it’s not really by the tourist spots either. It is, however, one of the best places to visit for fine coffee and espresso in the area. Just a quick 10 minute drive from downtown Asheville (actually in West Asheville), the coffee shop is located in a converted house (a bungalow of sorts). The vibe at Waking Life Espresso is comfortable, wholesome, and warm. Oh, and they also serve one of the best cups of coffee in Asheville (not just my opinion).
The experience at Waking Life Espresso
I wasn’t sure what I’d find at Waking Life Espresso because the name seems to indicate a narrow focus. No matter, I figured a place with such a special focus must be pretty passionate about espresso. I was pleasantly surprised to find much more than espresso when I arrived. While one of their hallmarks is a specialty flash chilled and flash nitro coffee on-tap, I chose to go a more traditional route. I had a simple brewed coffee, and was introduced to Mountain Air Roasting Company (the featured roaster of the moment), a local roaster based in Asheville. Based on the brew I tried (it was super tasty), Mountain Air Roasting is now on my short list of roasters to purchase from by mail.
If you’re in Asheville and want to drink a transformative cup of coffee in a great environment, take 30 minutes out of your day and head to Waking Life Espresso (there’s outdoor seating as well).
